Dr. Klaus Schwab is the Executive Chairman and founder of the World Economic Forum. A former German teacher, Dr. Schwab founded WEF in 1971 to provide a forum for business, academic, and political leaders to join together to address global issues. Dr. Schwab has previously served as a member of the United Nations Advisory Board on Sustainable Development and was the Vice-Chairman of the United Nations Committee for Development Planning. Dr. Schwab and his wife also founded the Schwab Foundation for Social Entrepreneurship in 1997 and the Forum of Young Global Leaders in 2004. Schwab was Professor of Business Policy at the University of Geneva until 2002 and is the author of several books. Discussing his graduate education, Dr. Schwab said, "The time spent at the Kennedy School gave a new direction to my career and my life. Instead of pursuing a business career, I opted for public service."
