In May 2002, Mr. Mitchell was elected as the Progressive Liberal Party Member of the Bahamas Parliament and was subsequently appointed Minister of Foreign Affairs and the Public Service. Mr. Mitchell began his public affairs career as a radio producer for Bahamas’ Public Affairs Division and later as Director of Public Affairs and News for Bahamas Broadcasting Corporation. Mitchell returned to school to earn his MPA and law degree, he and practiced law for several years before being elected to the Senate and later the Parliament. Mitchell is also a founder of The Bahamas Committee on Southern Africa, an NGO involved in the struggle against apartheid. Nelson Mandela has personally thanked Mitchell for his role in the fight against apartheid. |
