Brian Tucker is the founder and President of GeoHazards International, a non-profit which aims to use civil engineering and seismic prediction technology to reduce the potential for death and injury in those areas of the world that are most earthquake-prone. Dr. Tucker works with local governments, community leaders, and citizens to implement cost-effective ways to strengthen the construction of buildings in order to reduce the number of earthquake casualties. Tucker has received the Gorakha Dakshin Bahu Award for service to the people of Nepal and a MackArthur Fellowship, which allows Tucker to continue his work. Tucker is also a consulting professor in Stanford University’s Department of Civil Engineering, and he sits on the board of both The Journal of Earthquake Engineering and The World Seismic Safety Initiative.
