Joint Degrees


Many MPA / MPP programs make it easy for students to obtain dual degrees from other programs or academic institutions. In dual degree programs MPA/MPP degrees usually require one additional year. Note that separate applications may be required for joint or concurrent programs. Students pursuing joint degree programs are usually eligible for financial aid available for students of regular MPA/MPP programs.

Available joint degrees may involve a wide range of study fields. MPP/MBA, MPP/UP, MPA/ID, MPA/MBA, MPA/JD and MPA/MD are a few of available joint degree options.

MPA or MPP/MBA (Master of Business Administration)
This joint degree is usually ideal for students interested in public-private partnership initiatives, social entrepreneurship, government funded private/voluntary programs and etc. This joint degree is usually a three-year program.


MPA or MPP/JD (Juris Doctor)
This joint degree enables students to combine their analytical and management skills from MPA/MPP programs with the knowledge of the legal system. Students typically complete this joint degree in 4 years.


MPA or MPP/MEM (Master of Environmental Management)
This joint degree gives students strong background in environmental sciences plus the policy analysis and public management skills to translate science into policy and implementation.


MPA or MPP/MD (Doctor of Medicine)
This concurrent degree is particularly appealing to medical students who plan to pursue a career in hospital management, international health assistance and health policy.


MPA or MPP/UP (Urban Planning)
This joint degree enables students to combine their public policy background with urban and regional planning. This joint degree typically can be completed in two years.


MPA or MPP/ID (International Development)
This two-year joint degree enables students to combine their policy analysis and management skills with the knowledge in international development and global policy. The curriculum usually includes analytical, quantitative, management courses and international development issues and concepts.
