The WMU School of Public Affairs and Administration (SPAA) is one of the nation’s largest MPA programs and is accredited by the National Association of Schools of Public Affairs and Administration. During the past quarter century, the SPAA has graduated more than 1,500 women and men who hold leadership positions in federal, state, and local governments, health care and social services organizations, nonprofit agencies, and academic institutions.
The MPA curriculum emphasizes evaluating the administrative environment and addresses the economic, cultural, historical, and political environment in which a student's agency operates. These elements enhance the student’s capacity to respond effectively to current problems and maximizes a manager’s ability to effectively address policy and constituency issues.
Most MPA courses are offered once per week from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Selected courses are offered on Saturdays or online. The entire MPA curriculum (PADM courses) is available at the Battle Creek, Grand Rapids, Kalamazoo, Lansing, and Southwest Campuses of Western Michigan University.
